Gazipur, Aug 08 (V7N)- Gazipur police have registered a case concerning the brutal beating and injury of Anwar Hossain, a journalist with the Bangladeshi newspaper Alo. The victim’s mother, Anwara Hossain, filed the case on Friday night at the Sadar Police Station.
The case names Sourav, Raktim, Farid, and 15 to 20 unidentified individuals as accused. Police have already arrested Farid from the Kalapatti area of Gazipur.
The assault occurred near the Sadar Metro Police Station in Gazipur around 5 pm on Wednesday (August 6). Eyewitnesses claim that despite law enforcement presence, no one intervened during the attack.
A video of the incident went viral on social media, showing the journalist being dragged and viciously beaten by several assailants near fruit shops by the north side of the Joydevpur railway line. The attackers struck him with sticks, kicked him, and repeatedly hit him with a brick, causing severe bruises on his legs and body.
Following the assault, police rescued Anwar Hossain and admitted him to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for treatment. The journalist suspects the attack was retaliation for his reporting on extortion activities.
