California, Julay 1 (V7N) - Ryan Gosling stars as Earth’s unlikely savior in the upcoming sci-fi thriller Project Hail Mary, Amazon MGM Studios’ adaptation of Andy Weir’s bestselling novel. The film follows a gripping space odyssey as the world teeters on the brink of annihilation.
Gosling portrays Ryland Grace, a humble middle school science teacher who unexpectedly finds himself alone in space on a last-ditch mission to save humanity. As seen in the newly released trailer on Monday, June 30, the sun — along with other stars — is dying from a mysterious phenomenon, threatening life on Earth.
Untrained and overwhelmed, Grace is forced to adapt quickly. “I put the not in astronaut,” he quips in the trailer. “I've never done anything. I've never done a space walk. I can't even moonwalk.”
Despite his inexperience, Grace’s journey takes a hopeful turn when he encounters and befriends a non-human lifeform he names Rocky — an intelligent alien from a distant planet also facing extinction. Together, they form an unlikely alliance, hoping to find a solution that could save both their species.
Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), the film combines Weir’s signature scientific realism with heart, humor, and interstellar adventure. Gosling, a three-time Oscar nominee, also serves as producer.
Project Hail Mary is expected to premiere in 2026 and has already sparked buzz as one of the most anticipated science fiction films of the decade.
