Dhaka, June 20 (V7N) — Singer Mainul Ahsan Nobel has married Israt Jahan Priya, the former Eden Women's College student who recently filed a rape case against him. The marriage was solemnized at Keraniganj Central Jail on Thursday (June 19) under the supervision of prison authorities. Witnesses from both sides were present during the ceremony.

The marriage took place following a court order issued by Magistrate Nazmin Akhter of the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court on June 18. Nobel, who has been in jail since May 20, submitted the application to marry the plaintiff, claiming that she was already his wife. The plaintiff was present in court during the hearing.

Nobel was arrested from his Demra residence on May 19 after the plaintiff accused him of raping, torturing, and confining her for seven months. She also alleged that he recorded videos of the abuse and used them to blackmail her.

Although Nobel’s lawyer initially claimed that the woman was his wife, no legal documents were provided to the court at that time. The formal marriage under Islamic law (Kabin) was completed after the recent court directive.

Nobel first rose to fame through his participation in a music competition on Indian television and later gained popularity in Bangladesh and India through playback singing.
