Dhaka, July 06 (V7N) — The Marma Conscious Citizens' Association has called for the removal of Supradeep Chakma, Advisor to the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, and Konkan Chakma, Joint Secretary, accusing them of discrimination in rehabilitation and government allocations favoring certain communities and political figures.
At a press conference held at the National Press Club on Sunday morning (July 6), representatives of the Marma community alleged that since assuming office, Supradeep Chakma has engaged in severe racial discrimination, particularly against the Marma, Tripura, and other minority communities in the allocation of government projects and resources.
They claimed that government-funded projects are being disproportionately directed towards the Chakma community, while Awami League public representatives are being favored in rehabilitation efforts.
Pointing to demographic figures, the speakers said there are approximately 500,000 Chakma and 200,000 Marma residents in the three districts of the Hill Tracts, but the allocations do not reflect this reality.
The association issued a seven-day ultimatum to address what they termed as "discriminatory practices" and warned of initiating tougher programs if visible steps are not taken.
