Cox’s Bazar, June 24 (V7N) — A betel nut farmer was shot dead by a gang of robbers in the Nurardil hilly area of Jaliya Palong Union, Ukhia upazila, Cox’s Bazar. The incident took place late Monday (June 23) night. Another person was injured in the attack.
The deceased has been identified as Nurul Amin Bablu, a resident of the area.
According to family members, the family was preparing betel nuts for marketing when a gang of 7 to 8 armed robbers stormed into their home. The robbers looted gold ornaments from the women and then took the family members hostage, detaining them at the house of Nurul Amin’s brother, Hasan.
Shortly afterward, when Nurul Amin arrived and called from outside, the robbers opened fire, shooting him. As Hasan attempted to intervene, the attackers stabbed him before fleeing the scene.
Nurul Amin succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to the hospital, and Hasan is currently undergoing treatment.
Upon receiving information, police visited the scene and began an investigation into the incident. Local residents have expressed concern over rising incidents of robbery and violence in the hilly areas of Ukhia.
