Dhaka, Feb 03 (V7N) — The High Court on Tuesday directly dismissed a writ petition filed by Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP), challenging the validity of the candidacy of BNP-nominated candidate Dr MA Qayyum in the Dhaka-11 constituency.

With the dismissal of the petition, there remains no legal obstacle to Dr MA Qayyum contesting the upcoming parliamentary election from Dhaka-11 as the BNP candidate with the ‘paddy sheaf’ symbol.

The writ was dismissed by a High Court bench comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Md Asif Hasan.

Nahid Islam filed the writ petition on Monday (February 2), alleging that Dr MA Qayyum held dual citizenship and had concealed information in his nomination papers. The petition sought an order suspending his candidacy.

After hearing the matter, the court rejected the petition outright.
