Dhaka, Aug 01 (V7N) – Despite heavy rainfall, July fighters and the families of martyrs have maintained a roadblock at the Shahbagh intersection in the capital since Thursday night, demanding the immediate declaration and implementation of the July Charter.
The protestors resumed blocking the road on Friday morning, raising slogans and bringing traffic to a standstill on one of Dhaka’s busiest roads. The blockade has caused significant disruption, making it difficult for commuters to travel for urgent work.
In response, police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have been deployed in the area to manage security and maintain order amid the ongoing demonstration.
The protesters expressed their frustration, stating that the injured and martyr family members were compelled to join the movement because the July Charter — which they consider their rightful demand — has yet to be officially declared. Despite repeated calls for action, there has been no progress.
They have vowed to continue the protest until their demands are fully met. The July fighters also warned that they would erect a temporary stage at Shahbagh to intensify their movement if assurances regarding the July Charter are not fulfilled soon.
