Dhaka, Aug 15 (V7N) – A complaint of sexual harassment against a senior army officer has circulated on social media, prompting an official investigation by the Bangladesh Army. The complainant is the ex-wife of a former army officer, who was previously dismissed from service following a high-profile criminal conviction and is currently serving a prison sentence.

In a press release issued today, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that the army was informed of the complaint prior to its social media circulation and has taken the matter seriously. The accused senior officer has been relieved of his duties, and a high-level investigation board has been formed to determine the facts. Disciplinary action is currently underway.

The ISPR statement also clarified that, under army regulations, dismissed members are not entitled to medical treatment, government housing, or other facilities. However, on humanitarian grounds, the family of the former officer was temporarily allowed to stay in government accommodation to support their child’s SSC examinations.

“Bangladesh Army is committed to moral values and discipline and does not tolerate any unethical behavior. All allegations against its members are investigated seriously, and strict action is taken if proven,” the statement added.
