Dhaka, July 27 (V7N) – Dr. Ali Riaz, Vice President of the National Consensus Commission, announced on Sunday that political parties have reached agreement on 10 key issues, while discussions on 7 other topics are ongoing and 3 remain pending.
He made the statement at the start of the 18th day of the second round of political dialogue between political parties and the commission, held at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
Dr. Riaz added that an initial draft of the "July Charter"—a foundational political document aimed at outlining the path for future governance—has been prepared and will be sent to all political parties by tomorrow for review and feedback.
Today’s meeting focuses on three significant agenda items:
-
The basic principles of state governance,
-
Proposals to expand the fundamental rights of citizens, and
-
A proposal to establish an independent police commission to ensure professionalism and accountability within the police force.
Dr. Riaz expressed optimism that important decisions may emerge from today’s discussions. He also noted that four commissions involved in the process have been instructed to complete all discussions within this month.
Representatives from all major political parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami and the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), are participating in the dialogue. However, BNP has yet to send any representatives to the ongoing talks.
