Dhaka, July 26 (V7N) – Financial Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed has emphasized that political settlement is essential for the development of Bangladesh’s economy. He made the remarks during the book launch ceremony of Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman held at the CIRDAP auditorium in Dhaka on Saturday.
Dr. Ahmed highlighted the severity of the country’s current financial crisis, stating, “No country in the world has faced a financial disaster of this magnitude as Bangladesh. Some banks have lost up to 80 percent of their funds.”
He further noted international financial institutions’ assessments, saying, “The IMF estimates that $18 billion is required to rescue the banking sector, while the World Bank projects the need for approximately $35 billion.”
Looking ahead, Dr. Ahmed expressed hope for reforms, stating that the interim government will leave behind some footprints of reform, while a future political government must undertake medium- and long-term economic restructuring.
