Dhaka, July 02 (V7N) — The prosecution has formally submitted a charge sheet to International Crimes Tribunal-2, accusing 16 individuals, including former Member of Parliament Saiful Islam, in the case of burning six victims’ bodies following a mass killing in Ashulia, Savar.
The charge sheet was placed before the tribunal on Wednesday morning (July 2) after the prosecution received the investigation report on June 19.
Among those named in the charge sheet are police officers Abdullah Hill Kafi and Shahidul Islam, both of whom were produced before the tribunal along with five others arrested in connection with the case.
According to the case documents, on August 5 last year, five people were shot dead in police firing in Ashulia. Another victim sustained critical injuries. The prosecution alleges that the bodies of the five deceased along with the injured individual were loaded into a police van, doused with petrol, and set ablaze in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence.
A case under the charges of crimes against humanity was filed with the International Crimes Tribunal on September 11, 2024.
The tribunal is expected to fix a date soon for the formal hearing on the charge sheet
