Dhaka, Dec 25 (V7N) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman departed the United Kingdom for Bangladesh on Wednesday, marking the end of a 17-year period of exile in London. He was accompanied by his wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, and their only daughter, barrister Zaima Rahman.
According to party and aviation sources, the family left London’s Heathrow Airport at 6:15 pm local time on Wednesday, which corresponds to 12:15 am early Thursday Bangladesh time, aboard a regular Bangladesh Biman flight.
The flight is scheduled to make an initial stopover in Dubai before continuing its journey to Bangladesh. Upon entering Bangladeshi airspace, the aircraft will first land at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet to disembark passengers. It will then take off for the final leg of the journey, landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 11:55 am on Thursday.
Earlier, on Wednesday evening, Tarique Rahman and his family left their London residence for Heathrow Airport after 8:00 pm Bangladesh time and arrived at the airport around 10:15 pm. Supporters and party leaders are now awaiting his arrival on Bangladeshi soil, viewing the return as a significant moment in the country’s contemporary political landscape.
