Dhaka, Sep 17 (V7N) – Students of various polytechnic institutes blocked the road at Satrasta in Tejgaon on Wednesday morning, pressing a 7-point demand including reforms in recruitment and promotion policies.

The students began gathering from early morning and fully blocked the road around 11 am, causing severe traffic jams across several key routes in the capital. Thousands of office-goers and commuters faced long delays as vehicles remained stuck for hours.

During the demonstration, students were seen chanting slogans demanding:

  • Increase in the promotion rate from deputy assistant engineer to assistant engineer,

  • Proportional recruitment of B.Sc. and diploma engineers in government and autonomous institutions,

  • Cancellation of the 30% promotion quota for craft instructors,

  • Reversal of the recent promotion verdict for craft instructors to junior instructor,

  • Change of craft instructor titles,

  • Cancellation of the 2021 recruitment of craft instructors,

  • Amendment of existing appointment rules.

The protesting students warned of launching stricter programs if their demands were not met.

This was not the first such action: on Tuesday afternoon, polytechnic students staged a brief blockade at Satrasta Mor before returning to campus after half an hour.

Meanwhile, similar protests spread outside Dhaka on Wednesday. Students in Gazipur blocked roads, while in Dinajpur, both roads and railway tracks were obstructed, disrupting transport and daily life.
