Bagerhat, Sep 17 (V7N) – The All-Party Joint Committee is continuing its sit-in demonstration for the second consecutive day in front of the district election office, demanding the restoration of four parliamentary seats in Bagerhat.

On Wednesday morning, protesters took position at the main gate of the district election office as well as at the election offices of nine upazilas. The program, which began at 9 am, will continue until 1 pm, organizers confirmed. Demonstrators also brought out a protest procession.

Leaders and activists of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and several other political parties joined the protest, alongside citizens from various professions and backgrounds.

Protesters accused the Election Commission (EC) of ignoring the aspirations of the local population by reducing one seat in Bagerhat. They demanded the restoration of four constituencies, citing factors such as the population size, Mongla Port, and the district’s industrial importance.

Movement leaders further announced that a new program will be declared today at 3 pm.

Meanwhile, the High Court on Tuesday issued a 10-day rule asking the Election Commission to explain why the parliamentary seats in Bagerhat should not be restored, following a hearing on a writ petition.
