Pabna, Sept 11 (V7N) – Two Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leaders were shot and a Malaysian expatriate injured during an alleged attack by Jubo Dal activists at a private residence in Char Tarapur Union of Pabna Sadar on Wednesday night.
According to police, the incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. near Daspara Government Primary School. Victims included Sheikh Shafi, 45, former vice-president of Char Tarapur Union BNP, Tikka Khan, 47, a local BNP leader, and Abul Kashem Biswas, 50, a Malaysian expatriate residing in Daspara village.
The alleged attackers were identified as Abdul Salam Pramanik, general secretary of Char Tarapur Union Jubo Dal, along with two associates, Tanser Molla and Shamim Biswas. Eyewitnesses said the group arrived on motorcycles and opened fire near the residence, later shooting again in front of the school. Sheikh Shafi was critically injured and transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, while Tikka Khan and Kashem Biswas received treatment at Pabna General Hospital.
Kashem Biswas stated that the attack followed his refusal to pay a demand of Tk 10 lakh in extortion and ongoing disputes over local dominance. He alleged the group is involved in illegal sand mining, extortion, and other criminal activities.
Pabna Sadar Police Officer-in-Charge, (OC) Abdus Salam confirmed two people were shot, and two shotgun shells were recovered. The investigation is ongoing. Abdul Salam Pramanik denied involvement, calling the allegations a conspiracy. Jubo Dal authorities said disciplinary action will be taken if accusations are verified.
