Ukhiya, 16 Aug (V7N) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has recovered 4,80,000 pieces of yaba tablets from an embankment area in the Palongkhali border of Ukhiya upazila, Cox’s Bazar. The drugs were abandoned and no individuals were arrested during the operation.

The seizure was confirmed by Lt. Colonel Jasim Uddin, Commanding Officer of the Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB).

According to the official, BGB had received intelligence indicating that narcotics smuggling activities were taking place in the battalion's area of responsibility. As a result, patrols along the border were intensified.

On the night of August 14, acting on a tip-off, a special patrol team from the Palongkhali Border Outpost (BOP) took position near an area called Katakhal. At approximately 10 PM, they spotted seven individuals crossing into Bangladesh from Myanmar using a fish farm pathway along the embankment.

When challenged by the patrol team, the suspects fled the scene, abandoning four black fabric bags. Upon inspection, the bags were found to contain approximately 4,80,000 yaba tablets. Further searches in the surrounding area did not yield any additional contraband.

Lt. Colonel Jasim Uddin stated that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those involved. Intelligence operations by the battalion have been intensified to crack down on cross-border narcotics trafficking networks.

A General Diary (GD) has been filed with Ukhiya Police Station, and procedures are ongoing to hand over the recovered yaba tablets as evidence to the appropriate legal authorities.
