Pabna, July 13 (V7N): A serious dispute has unfolded between Abdul Jabbar, a migrant worker from Saudi Arabia, and his wife Himayara Khatun over financial transparency and allegations of infidelity. The conflict escalated when Jabbar questioned the use of the money he had sent to his wife and her family, and raised concerns about an alleged affair.

Abdul Jabbar, originally from the village of Panchdighal in Ullapara, Sirajganj, and his wife Himayara Khatun, daughter of Helalur Rahman from Mallikpur West Para, Chatmohor, Pabna, married on May 1, 2022. After the marriage, Jabbar returned to Saudi Arabia for work, but continued to send money to his wife via bank and mobile transactions. Over a period of time, he sent almost Tk 8.5 lakh to Himayara.

Upon his return to Bangladesh in 2024, Jabbar sent another Tk 4.5 lakh to Himayara, her father Helalur Rahman, and her uncle Belal for a family event and land-related matters. This increased the total amount Jabbar sent to his wife’s family to approximately Tk 13.75 lakh.

However, trouble arose when Jabbar discovered text messages on his wife’s phone indicating infidelity. When he confronted his mother-in-law, she dismissed his concerns, urging him to ignore the matter. Disturbed by the situation, Jabbar decided to return to Saudi Arabia for work again. But shortly after, he received a threatening call from a man claiming to be Himayara's lover. The caller warned Jabbar to stop interfering in the relationship, stating that he no longer had any rights over his wife.

As tensions rose, Jabbar, seeking clarity on the money he had sent, demanded an account from his wife and her family. In retaliation, Himayara, along with her family members, filed a dowry harassment case against Jabbar and his family. Afterward, Himayara blocked Jabbar’s phone number, cutting off all communication.

In response, Jabbar’s family filed a case of fraud and embezzlement, accusing Himayara's family of misappropriating the money Jabbar had sent. Jabbar’s mother stated, "My son always sent money for the welfare of his wife and her family. Yet, after seeing the suspicious behavior, he asked for an explanation. Now they are making false accusations and harassing us."

Himayara Khatun, however, defended herself, saying that her husband failed to fulfill his responsibilities as a husband and that he should not expect her to stop communicating with her friends or family. "His claims about the money will be proven false in court," she added.

Himayara’s father, Helalur Rahman, rejected the allegations and accused Jabbar of having a hidden previous marriage, which he had not disclosed. "These matters were settled through local arbitration, but Jabbar refuses to accept the decisions," said Rahman.

The officer in charge (OC) of Chatmohor Police Station, Monjurul Alam, said, "We are unaware of any complaints regarding this matter at the police station. Both parties have filed cases in court, and the matter will be decided there."
