DHAKA, June 29 (V7N) – Muhammad Wasif, Charge d'Affaires of the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka, held a courtesy meeting with Mahmud Hasan Khan, President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), on Sunday to explore avenues for reinforcing bilateral trade and investment in the readymade garment (RMG) and textile sectors.
The meeting, held at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka, brought together key representatives from both sides. Wasif was accompanied by Zain Aziz, the high commission's trade and investment attaché, while BGMEA was represented by Vice President Md. Rezwan Salim, Director Faisal Samad, Director Sumaiya Islam, and Director Fahima Akter.
Discussions at the meeting focused on leveraging the strengths of both nations within the global textile and apparel industry. The dialogue acknowledged Pakistan's significant position in textile production and Bangladesh's leading role in apparel manufacturing. Both parties expressed interest in increasing textile imports from Pakistan to Bangladesh and boosting exports of ready-made garments and accessories from Bangladesh to Pakistan.
BGMEA President Khan put forward several proposals for mutually beneficial trade. He suggested that Pakistan could import textile waste from Bangladesh to meet the demands of its expanding recycling industry. He further emphasized the potential for significant demand for Bangladeshi jute fiber in Pakistan, highlighting Bangladesh's position as the world's largest jute producer.
Both sides reached an agreement on fostering collaboration through various initiatives, including knowledge exchange programs, organizing business delegations from both countries, and joint participation in exhibitions and workshops to expand trade relations. They also discussed the effective implementation of a previously signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BGMEA and the Pakistan Readymade Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA), which aims to further strengthen bilateral trade ties. President Khan underscored the critical importance of active participation from businesses in both countries for the successful realization of this MoU's objectives.
