Bagerhat, June 29 (V7N) - As part of a government incentive program for the 2024–2025 fiscal year, a total of 1,400 coconut saplings have been distributed free of cost to marginal and small-scale farmers in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat. The distribution ceremony was officially inaugurated at 11:00 AM on Sunday by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Habibullah, under the initiative of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Morelganj.
Farmers from all 16 unions and the municipality of Morelganj each received five coconut saplings as part of the scheme. The program aims to encourage sustainable agriculture and improve livelihoods in coastal communities where coconut cultivation is both viable and beneficial.
Speaking at the event, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Badruddoza praised the initiative, while Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Saiful Islam delivered the welcome address. Also present were Agriculture Extension Officer Ivana Bila Ritu, Upazila Food Controller Drubo Mondol, Plant Protection Officer Dolton Roy, and Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officers Md. Zakir Hossain and Moshiur Rahman, among others.
UNO Habibullah remarked, “In this coastal region, the government is committed to supporting marginal farmers through sustainable initiatives. The free distribution of coconut saplings is part of that effort. Farmers have also been advised on proper planting and care techniques by the agriculture department.”
Officials further emphasized that continuous guidance will be provided to ensure that the distributed saplings are well utilized and contribute to long-term agricultural development in the region.
